20 Tips about Mount Batur Trek in Bali.

24/11/2024/in Blog /by webmaster

A must-see sunrise in Bali. Trekking is so much sweeter when your effort is rewarded with dramatic views Bali’s morning sky over an expansive lake as it transforms into different colors right before your eyes. Considered a sacred site by local people, and  recognized as a UNESCO site Mount Batur is still an active volcano with the last eruption in 2000.

Sitting atop of Mount Batur after the 2 hour steady hike in the dark is certainly a WOW experience! On a good day, you’ll be able to view the neighboring island of Lombok.

The Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking is a perfect way to go back to nature, enjoying the fresh air, taking a deep breath, and release your mind. Then get some AMAZING photos. Soak up the views – they don’t get much better than this on the Island of the Gods.

Helpful Tips About Mt Batur Sunrise Trek.

  1. The moderate, 1717m climb will take approx. 2 hours and is doable for anyone with a medium fitness.
  2. We do not recommend this trek for children under 12 years, pregnant ladies, elderly, people with leg injuries or poor cardio fitness. However there is no need to miss out on Bali’s best sunrise. An alternative Mt Batur Sunrise Tour is available HERE
  3. Mt Batur Trek can be booked for any day. Interestingly the weather in this Kintamani area is different to Ubud and other areas in Bali. So even if Ubud and the south has been raining it is highly unlikely that rain will be in Kintamani. However during the dry season in Bali, April to October there is a better chance of a cloud free sunrise. Wet season weather can cause parts of the track to become slippery.
  4. There are several reputable local tour companies offering guided treks to Mount Batur, but it is important to know are you booking a group or private sunrise trek.
  5. We recommend staying in Ubud, so not such an early start compared to the southern tourist areas.  See our recommended Mt Batur VIP Package HERE
  6. Wear layered clothing. You will be hot during the climb but the mountain air is pretty fresh at the top so bring a jacket and even a hat. If rain looks likely pack a light weight rain jacket.
  7. Wear sports shoes with good grip (or hiking boots)
  8. Be sure to have enough battery on your phone or camera so you don’t miss one of Bali’s best photo opportunities.
  9. Listen to your guide to get some great info about Mt Batur and the surrounding areas. Some of these guys have been trekking here for 25 years so they know A LOT!
  10. Usually there is light food included at the summit. But we recommend also packing a favorite snack.
  11. Be cautious on the downward trek. There can be areas of loose rock which can be slippery.
  12. You can include a trip to the hot springs near the volcano to ease aching legs and limbs, post climb!
  13. Bring a little extra cash with you. Tipping is optional but if you’ve enjoyed the experience, show your appreciation with a tip.
  14. Prepare to be on top of the world

Why We Highly Recommend Private Mt Batur Trek

  1. Depart much later. 2.30am – 2.45am compared to 1.30am. . If you are not an early riser there is still time to sneak in sleep in the car.
  2. Get dropped at reception of start point, not in a car park or a long way from track.
  3. Driver will assist you at departure point until you meet the guide.
  4. Departure point offers free tea, coffee, water, biscuits and has clean toilets.
  5. A private guide will help you during the trek. Not one guide trying to help 4 – 6 persons.
  6. Track used is significantly less busy than public tracks.
  7. Hike at your own pace a day have breaks when you need.
  8. Guide assists with taking great photos for you.
  9. When finished return directly back to your hotel, not be dropped to a number of hotels.
  10. Tea, Bali Coffee or Hot Chocolate, Banana or Egg Sandwich and Kintamani orange and is served at the summit
  11. Flashlight, walking stick and water are included, but if you are a big water drinker BYO water in a water bottle.
