Merlins Magic
Ubud is renowned for its out of the box dining venues so it makes perfect sense that Merlins Magic is located in the town. Upon arrival you know Merlins is different ! The lobby is a magic shop selling trinkets, guide books, pills and potions. Not sure what you need to become a magical being, then turn the page of the magicians guide to find your recommended potion. Continue upstairs to the impressive dining room resembling the wizards private chamber with a giant glass dome over the large wood carved table that seems to be a merge of Balinese and Medieval styles.
The food impresses right from the start with the golden turmeric focaccia served as welcome bread with 3 butters, sambal matah, herb and black garlic. The cassava rendang molen was a Balinese twist on a empanada . The tortellini was melt in your mouth fresh and guilt free since it was combined with a light moringa anagata cheese sauce. Our ‘ must try ‘ recommendation is the Canang dessert. Carefully sculpted to resemble a Balinese offering known as canang the flavours were a taste explosion. Accompanied by Malbec gelato (yes Malbec the wine !) we had never seen or tasted a dessert quite like this !

If you are a foodie then Moziac definitely needs to be on your list. Mozaic was Ubud’s first fine dining restaurant and has survived 20 years. The restaurant is indoor with AC and a lovely ambiance. The staff are young, personable and do their best to assist with a complicated menu There is 6 or 8 courses that can include wine pairing with both vegetarian and meat choices. Moziac always pushes the creativity to the next level. We wouldn’t do the menu justice to try and describe, you just need to try!.
