Anomali
One of the best locations in Ubud town centre this cafe serves UBUD BEST COFFEE 2022.  There are so many variations for coffee now but the friendly barista’s at Anomali seem to get every order just right! Milk available includes oat, dairy and coconut. Second to the coffee is the croissants – plain, chocolate, almond and raisin are fresh every morning. We rate the croissants UBUD TOP 3 CROISSANTS 2022.

A stop at Anomali is recommended after visiting Ubud Market. Donna
Donna is impressive and brings a new style of bar, dining and dancing to Ubud. The venue located amongst the live music strip of Monkey Forest Road offers something different for this area.  Ground floor is tapas dining and lounging whilst first floor is a roof top bar leading to the dark disco dance floor.  This layout means you can start with dinner, move to the bar to socialize more and then bust out some dance moves when you feel the need. Tapas is delicious, the cocktails (with mocktail versions) are creative without being too much.

Pomegrante
Cafe Pomegranate is a cafe restaurant located in the middle of the rice field within walking distance from Ubud town.  There is no car access – only motorbike and by foot. The walk is highly recommended, it is interesting and will provide many photo opportunities.  The building is unique due to the raised altitude compared to the central Ubud and disconnected from the busy main streets. It provides a 360° open view. In the morning, we can usually see Mount  Agung. One of the prime times is to see the sunset looking over the view of the rice field towards the Camphuan river.

Cabana
Tucked away from Raya Ubud close to Campuhan Bridge is where you will find Cabana. A little tricky the first time as the entrance is curves and there is not a lot of parking. Once arrived you need to go up 3 or 4 flights of stairs. Cabana is open air lounge and bar style setting with a view of a beautiful temple. The food has great variety suitable for sharing (or not if you are hungry). Paella is delicious, the beetroot salad a good choice to stay healthy. And definitely the mango souffle for dessert.

The Elephant (Vegetarian)
With such a large menu of delicious food, juices, mocktails and cocktails what to order is always a difficult choice. Mango Dragonfruit smoothie is a must try. Gyoza, gnocchi, Pad Thai is super fresh and highly recommended. But the winning dish is “ I can’t believe it’s not spaghetti” which is spaghetti bolognese made with tofu. It is sooo good. The Elephant is on the outskirts of town and overlooks the Campuhan Ridge so it is a good idea to visit for lunch or breakfast.

Otcha – Greek/Mediterranean
After watching this restaurant beng built over the past 2 years we are very happy to see Otcha open and buzzing with guests. The décor is stunning and modern yet has a relaxed feel overlooking a beautiful garden with moon view in the evenings. We particularly love the starters, dips and side dishes which can be ordered tapas style. Pornstar Martini is 2022 BEST COCKTAIL IN UBUD. Try and see if you agree! Another reason to dine tapas style here is the desserts, also high on the list of 2022 BEST DESSERT IN UBUD. Chocolate Mousse like no other, using Belgium chocolate. NEW 2022 Merlins Magic
Ubud is renowned for its out of the box dining venues so it makes perfect sense that Merlins Magic is located in the town. Upon arrival you know Merlins is different ! The lobby is a magic shop selling trinkets, guide books, pills and potions. Not sure what you need to become a magical being, then turn the page of the magicians guide to find your recommended potion. Continue upstairs to the impressive dining room resembling the wizards private chamber with a giant glass dome over the large wood carved table that seems to be a merge of Balinese and Medieval styles.

The food impresses right from the start with the golden turmeric focaccia served as welcome bread with 3 butters, sambal matah, herb and black garlic. The cassava rendang molen was a Balinese twist on a empanada . We endulged in cassava again with a serve of the tempura style fries. The tortellini was melt in your mouth fresh and guilt free since it was combined with a light moringa anagata cheese sauce. Our ‘ must try ‘ recommendation is the Canang dessert. Carefully sculpted to resemble a Balinese offering known as canang the flavours were a taste explosion. Accompanied by Malbec gelato (yes Malbec the wine !) we had never seen or tasted a dessert quite like this !
